Step 2: Determine Which Uses Require a Use Registration Permit, a Certificate, or a Variance

The Zoning Code lists many uses allowed in each type of district.  Some uses require a Use Registration Permit from the Department of Licenses and Inspection.  Some uses require a certificate from the Zoning Board of Adjustment.  If a use is not allowed under the Code, the property owner must obtain a variance from the Zoning Board of Adjustment.  To determine which uses require a permit, certificate, or variance, click on your property’s district type below.

Residential Districts: R-1, R-1A, R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, R-5A, R-6, R-7, R-8, R-9, R-9A, R-10, R-10A, R-10B, R-11, R-11A, R-12, R-13, R-14, R-15, R-16, R-18, R-19, R-20, RC-1, RC-2, RC-3, RC-4, RC-6

Commercial Districts: C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-5, C-6, C-7, Office Commercial, Neighborhood Shopping Center, Area Shopping Center

Industrial Districts: L-1, L-2, L-3, L-4, L-5, G-1, G-2, LR, Port Industrial

Recreational Districts: REC, REC-P, REC-A

There is also a Commercial Entertainment District (for the planned casinos), a Trailer Camp District, Neighborhood Conservation Districts, a Sports Stadium District, Institutional Development Districts, and Pending Public Acquisition Districts.
